देहरादून:- कांग्रेस ने चंपावत विधानसभा सीट के उपचुनाव के लिए निर्मला गहतोड़ी को उम्मीदवार बनाया है। कांग्रेस ने इस उपचुनाव में पहली बार किसी महिला को यहां से टिकट दिया है। फरवरी में हुए विधानसभा चुनाव में भी कांग्रेस की ओर से हेमेश खर्कवाल उम्मीदवार थे। उपचुनाव में प्रत्याशी बनाई गईं निर्मला गहतोड़ी मुख्य चुनाव में भी दावेदार थीं। निर्मला गहतोड़ी कांग्रेस की पूर्व जिलाध्यक्ष हैं। वो इस उपचुनाव में सीधे सीएम पुष्कर सिंह धामी को टक्कर देंगी।
इससे पहले अब तक हुए चार विधानसभा चुनावों में कांग्रेस ने हमेशा एक ही चेहरे पर भरोसा जताया था और वो हैं हेमेश खर्कवाल। हालांकि, बीजेपी ने चंपावत सीट से हर बार नया चेहरा उतारा। 2002 में हुए पहले चुनाव से 2022 तक के सभी चुनाव में कांग्रेस ने हेमेश खर्कवाल को प्रत्याशी बनाया था। पार्टी ने 2002 और 2012 में यहां जीत हासिल की, जबकि तीन बार हार झेली। हालांकि, उपचुनाव में चेहरा और मोहरा बदला हुआ नजर आ रहा है।
बीजेपी की ओर से मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी चंपावत से चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। धामी के लिए कैलाश गहतोड़ी ने अपनी चंपावत सीट छोड़ी है, जिसके बाद यहां आगामी 31 मई को उपचुनाव होने हैं।
आपको बता दें कि मार्च में आए उत्तराखंड विधानसभा चुनाव नतीजों में धामी को अपनी खटीमा सीट गंवानी पड़ी थी। हालांकि, बीजेपी आलाकमान ने उन्हीं पर अपना भरोसा जताया और सीएम की कमान धामी को ही सौंपी। ऐसे में सीएम बनने के 6 महीने के भीतर धामी को चुनाव जीतना जरूरी है।
गौर हो कि इससे पहले चंपावत विधानसभा क्षेत्र से अब तक केवल दो बार ही महिलाओं को टिकट मिला है और दोनों की बार ये महिला प्रत्याशी बीजेपी की ओर से थीं। साल 2007 में बीजेपी ने बीना महराना को टिकट दिया और उनकी जीत भी हुई थी। चुनाव जीतने के बाद उन्हें भुवन चंद्र खंडूरी मंत्रिमंडल में महिला सशक्तीकरण एवं बाल विकास मंत्री बनाया गया था। वहीं, साल 2012 में बीजेपी ने तत्कालीन पार्टी जिलाध्यक्ष हेमा जोशी को टिकट दिया, लेकिन वो जीत नहीं दिला पाईं थीं और तीसरे स्थान पर रही थीं।
